Project Overview

At the heart of Wichita Falls, the United Regional Health Care System entrusted Lindamood with the careful and complete demolition of four aging structures on its 8th Street campus—including the original Wichita General Hospital building, constructed in 1915. That facility had borne witness to over a century of history, from the town’s oil boom to the 1918 flu pandemic and generations of evolving patient care.

The project involved a complex mix of demolition methods to safely bring down structures ranging from one to eight stories tall, all nestled within a live hospital environment. Lindamood developed and executed a strategic plan that prioritized continuity of care, structural separation, and the preservation of active utility lines.

One of the most delicate challenges: dismantling the historic 1915 building, structurally interwoven with adjacent buildings still in use. Lindamood used high-reach precision equipment, phased interior gut-outs, and progressive floor-by-floor removal to safely navigate the project’s physical and historical complexity. Dust suppression, barrier fencing, and daily stakeholder coordination ensured safety and minimal disruption throughout the multi-week operation.
