Top-Down Excavation for a $200M Skyscraper in the Urban Core

At the bustling intersection of Klyde Warren Park and Uptown Dallas, Lindamood was brought on to perform earthwork and excavation services for the Park District project—an iconic $200-million development combining office, residential, and retail space.

What set this project apart wasn’t just the scale, but the method. To meet the fast-paced schedule of high-rise construction in a tight urban footprint, Lindamood deployed top-down deconstruction—a strategic excavation technique that allows vertical construction to begin from street level upward while excavation continues below.

Working beneath the active footprint of the rising tower, Lindamood crews dug nearly 50 feet below grade, carving out space for four levels of underground parking. The team encountered hard limestone at approximately 20 feet, requiring specialized equipment and sequencing to maintain pace and precision under pressure.

By integrating excavation with ongoing construction, Lindamood removed overburden and bedrock beneath the structure without delay to vertical progress. All excavated material was removed in just one month, and the entire below-grade scope—including hauling, rock breaking, and support coordination—was completed in under six months.
