UTSW Paul Bass Implosion
Project Overview
The UTSW Paul Bass Implosion project involved demolition of three high-rise towers, a support facility, thermal energy plant, and parking structure within an active medical campus. All work was executed while maintaining uninterrupted hospital and research operations.
The effort began with environmental remediation and conventional demolition of low-rise structures, followed by the controlled implosion of three 14- to 15-story towers using approximately 600 pounds of explosives. Given the proximity to sensitive medical facilities and airspace restrictions associated with Dallas Love Field, extensive safety and coordination measures were required.
Key project elements included:
Implosion of three high-rise towers within an active healthcare campus
Exclusion zones and geotextile curtain systems for debris containment
Continuous air quality monitoring during implosion operations
Coordination with Dallas Love Field to mitigate airspace impacts
Removal and recycling of 132,475 tons of debris over 90 days
Integrated demolition and environmental remediation under one contract
The project required disciplined sequencing and regulatory coordination to ensure public safety and operational continuity. Work was completed without disruption to adjacent medical facilities, demonstrating Lindamood’s expertise in high-risk demolition within highly sensitive environments.
