UTSW Paul Bass Implosion
Project Overview
The UTSW Bass Implosion project involved demolishing three high-rise towers, support facility, a thermal energy plant, and parking structure, all while maintaining uninterrupted campus operations. The execution began with environmental remediation and conventional demolition of low-rise structures, paving the way for the precise implosion of three- 14 to 15-story towers using 600 pounds of dynamite. Strict safety measures were essential due to the proximity of sensitive medical facilities, with exclusion zones, geotextile curtains for debris control, and continuous air quality monitoring in place.
Coordinating with Dallas Love Field Airport presented logistical challenges to prevent any impact on air traffic during the implosion phase. In line with environmental commitments, the project included the removal and recycling of 132,475 tons of debris over a 90-day period, showcasing a dedication to sustainability and responsible waste management.
